About Us

Great Leaders Make Great Communities

Leadership Thurston County was founded in 1992 by a group of committed local leaders. Realizing that Thurston County needed strong, engaged leaders to grow and maintain out special South Sound quality of life, they wanted to provide an on-going pool of civic leadership to ensure our community’s future. Since the first graduating class in 1994, over 400 graduates from over 200 organizations have completed the program and are making a difference in business, government, and non-profit organizations throughout Thurston County and beyond.

Purpose

The purpose of Leadership Thurston County is to inform, challenge and engage participants about the opportunities and needs of the community. Participants are highly motivated and share a commitment to improving our community and a desire to assume meaningful leadership roles. During the monthly challenge day sessions and program activities, a dialogue and connections among class members and community leaders are created, an esprit de corps among participants develops, and opportunities for community involvement are explored.

Desired Outcomes

Leadership Thurston County encourages participants to grow as leaders and demonstrate

  • Trusteeship: A community-oriented attitude that extends beyond self-interest with a perspective that includes future generations
  • Knowledge: An understanding of selected issues relevant to Thurston County and the South Puget Sound region from a variety of perspectives
  • Action: A willingness to become involved and will seek leadership opportunities
